Baby Bison Born Lone Elk Park in St Louis

There is a new arrival at Lone Elk Park. An American Bison calf was born on Jan. 3, 2013. Wildlife management officials believe it is a bull calf at this time.  They admit that this  is an unusual time for bison to give birth so park staff are keeping a close eye on the baby.
You can try to see the calf at the park now, but be careful.  A herd can be aggressive when there is a newborn.
Lone Elk Park is a wildlife management area with bison, wild turkey, waterfowl, elk and deer.

Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world. Mr Big is the daddy to 5 cuddly babies.

Five cuddly lion cubs born at the Omaha Zoo. A first since 1994.

For the first time in 18 years, the public can visit baby lions at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. Zoo director Dennis Pate says a total of five lion cubs, three females and 2 males, were born there on December 29. The father, Mr. Big, is 14 years old and weighs 560 pounds, and the mother, Mfisha, is six years old and weighs 335 pounds. This was their first litter
One female cub spent a few days receiving some extra care from her keepers after having a hard time competing with her sibling for milk.Although she will continue to be bottle fed 5 times a day, she was doing really well and was placed back into exhibit on Thursday with her mother, siblings, and her aunt. .Daddy is in a separate exhibit

“They’ll be here for quite a while,” Pate says. “As they grow, I imagine we’ll move them over so they have the outside yard, a lot of room to run and play. They should be a lot of fun to watch as they grow up. By the time they’re 16 weeks old, they’re going to be moving around a lot. Come spring, summer, it ought to be the joy of Omaha to come down and watch these cubs play.”
All the cubs are very healthy, Pate says, as is the new mother.
The zoo also has four African lion adults, one male and three females. African lions are listed as “vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.

Sloth bear cubs!

Zoo officials in eastern Idaho say two sloth bear cubs recently born at Tautphaus Park Zoo will eventually become a popular attraction but for now are being kept away from crowds.

Zoo Superintendent Beth Rich tells the Idaho State Journal in a story published Sunday that access to the bear building is restricted to make sure the cubs and mom have as little disturbance as possible.

Rich says the cubs born on Nov. 29 are doing well. She says that on the last check-up on Dec. 20 the male cub weighed 3.7 pounds and the female cub 2.8 pounds.
